For those who don’t know, this G90 will be a successor to the Hyundai Equus model. With this model, Hyundai will also launch G80, which will be a replacement for current Genesis sedan.
The primary aim of launching this luxury division is to establish Hyundai as a global luxury auto manufacturer. Also, with launch of these vehicles, Hyundai expects to compete against models like BMW-7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8, Cadillac CT5 and Lincoln Continental.
2017 Genesis G90 Design and Specs
This vehicle will be based on a new design language, which is inspired by the Vision G Concept model. Implementation of this new design will give G90 a more expressive and powerful look, as compared to the appearance of Equus.
Current Genesis sedan strongly resembles at front end of 2017 Genesis G90, trapezoidal shape of tall grille, underlined LED and winged badge resemble current model. However, the profile of G90 is more assertive and less soft. Bright work and surfacing on this model are less as compared to models like S-Class, but tail lamp’s LED signatures provide a completely different visual appeal to rear end.
Cabin of 2017 Genesis G90 is luxurious and features a wide and horizontally divided dash along with a huge infotainment screen in center of dash. Similar to cockpit in Genesis sedan, the controls of G90 are available in discrete zones.
A band of switches is available for climate controls, a specific region for transmission shift lever and also a console section which recognizes hand gesture input. Leather stitching, wood trim and ambient lighting give the cabin a luxurious feel. Other interior features offered include heated steering wheel, 17 speakers, USB, Bluetooth and Satellite radio.
2017 Genesis G90 Engine and Release
As far as Equus model was concerned, performance was never its concern. However, with G90, a more compelling engine specification is expected. The 2017 Genesis G90 shall be powered by either a V8 unit or a 6 cylinder engine.
A new 3.3-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine with direct injection serves as 6 cylinder unit. When run on premium gas, this engine can generate a maximum of 365 HP along with 376 lb-ft of torque. If you opt for the other option, a 5.0- liter V8 unit, the output shall rise to 420 HP along with 383 lb-ft of torque.
Auto manufacturer has not yet released performance details like acceleration, top speed and fuel economy numbers. Drivetrain choice is one huge performance advantage that G90 has over Equus model. Even though rear wheel drive is offered as standard configuration, G90 can also be fitted with all wheel drive system from Hyundai. Intelligent Drive Mode is also offered in order to improve handling and ride.
2017 Genesis G90 will be going on sale in later half of 2016, pricing details are yet to be officially announced.
